Downtown Rentals is a small family-owned business. It's run by David Morris (that's me - the guy writing this). I am mostly a sole operator, but I have three mechanics who work on contract and my son, James, helps me out during his university holidays. My wife, Sue, also helps out when required - especially in giving advice on things like camping equipment. She's the ranking expert on that subject.
The office is at my family home in Hillsborough, about 10 minutes drive from the airport and we have a storage yard in Onehunga where we park and store spare cars and vans. That's the address you see below.
I've ben running the business since 1984 when we started up in the centre of downtown Auckland city - hence the name of the business, Downtown Rentals. Rents became so high there that I decided to cut costs by shifting closer to the airport. It just seemed to make sense for me (and my family) to work from an office at home.
So, if you want to work with a big company I'm not it - people when booking often ask if they get a reservation number and are surprised when they are told "No, no numbers. We know you by name." What you will get is personal service - you have the knowledge that if there's a problem of any sort you won't have to deal with some dummy in a call centre somewhere overseas, someone who frankly doesn't give a damn. You can call me up and because you are talking to the man at the top (and the bottom!!) we'll get it sorted.
